the Y H.Q. - Found Goodwin gone to Paris - but Leopold here - and hope to get in touch with Hawkins later in the day.
Had an extremely pleasant and frank talk with the Regional Sec. Mr. Ames.- who deplores Leopold's arrival - especially his private Ford car - (that car is damning certainly every one who runs it gets into trouble if was Swinburns). 
Leopold can never stay on here I believe unless Goodwin goes - 
I made it clear to Ames why Leopold had been sent up - to help organize the work - as it had been his business in the States.
After lunch (in Place Stanislau), I took a short walk in the lovely park - which was exquisite in the Autumnal color & sunshine and two Hun airmen came over. and were driven away. by the harmless looking little clouds of smoke - like cotton spindles or distaffs in the blue sky
Took the evening train back to Paris - and arrived

A fine clear Autumnal day -
Plenty of work to do - My trip to Nancy turned out to be very helpful to Steele & Johnson in clearing up the trouble up there - all things considered - it will be but to send Leopold into another region tho he is undoubtedly a better man than Goodwin -
