Arrived at Torino about 3.30 - changed cars here - and proceeded up into the splendid Pass - which never looked more wonderful - with piled on piled masses of clouds and pure gold and sunshine filtration
Again the efficient and pleasantly given aid of Lieut Bennett made Modane a pleasant feature of the Frontier Crossing instead of the confusion of the past. - I had a good dinner - waighted on by - a servant girl I remember writing about in my diary of last October. She looks less harried than she did then.
Started off again - and had more or less sleep but was quite pleased to welcome the daylight and
Saturday September 8th
- A train wreck somewhere near Dijon delayed us about three hours.
Arriving about 2.45 - I got cleaned & changed and presented myself at my office at 3.30. and received very pleasant welcome - found costumes going strong and many sent out - Received a cable from Corinna saying she will sail about October 15 - Good news indeed - no letter from her - but a nice one from Lois Anna Greene - all well at home.
Sunday. Sept 9 -
Had a good night's rest. - who had the happy thought I wonder - to invent a bed? Went to my office - always delightfully quiet on Sundays - and did some work there - Called on Jack - who told me that Robert and Mildred had gone off on a much needed vacation for two months - England and later
