August 2
Rainy morning - the air raid accomplished little harm - and more firmly established desire to stop the War - and punish the beginners of the war - and the originators of its more terrible and brutal features. 
I got hold of much interesting "dope" on the local [[?]] (this morning) from the "Bishop" Mr. Atkinson (Virginia). and learned of the great difficulties Mr. Howe and his aviators have had in establishing the triangle in Calais - the behavior of the French Guard next door. was fully explained to me. and the troublesome methods. of an English Allie also - Calais evidently is not the place for us at the present moment. St. Omar would be preferable. 
I spent the night at Calais - at the Y. headquarters. Mr. Howe returning at supper-time - a fine man and [[insertion]] a [[/insertion]] hard. efficient worker with great experience - (Sorry he is leaving this very difficult region to go to Italy)
August 3
Leverett Bradley turned up this morning and I had a half hour with him - he has a hut three miles out - Naval Aviators.
Doctor [[?]] and I started out in the Tin Lizzie followed by the "Movie Men" and went to St. Omar - and after an interview with some Y men. in their offices in a tremendous great empty barracks we lunched at an English Army Cantina and were well fed at 1: 1/2 franc (two francs back when you brought your fork and spoon back
