Friday 16 - August
Continued dry weather. & very hot to-day Last night the Bertha tried to get up a great scare - the silly asses thought to put us all in a panic here in Paris - by a surprise air raid -
I heard the "alerte" and composed myself for sleep. and I believe 99 out of every 100 did the same thing - Isn't the Hun the very last word in stupidity. .He makes us fear him less and less - and despise and abominate him more and more and the reckoning at the finish will be harder - the more he does these un military - un manly - ridiculous things
I may be blown to atoms to-night by one of his bombs - but fear of this doesn't make me do any less work. and my poor sacrifice would mean. an added burden to the Hun. when the final day of reckoning comes as come it will.
To-day called on Major Warburton, Military Attache at the Embassy. about costumes for some U S soldiers at the English Front - also called on Madame Paul Vignon - and have practicaly engaged her to help me with the costumes business as Williams can not do it. - and the musical end also
Called on Elsie Sergeant. and saw. Ralph Grey. and Walter Bailey at the Hotel.
Came home early. to bed.
Cable from Winthrop Ames. saying a few more costumes are coming over.
Lucky I have began others.
