most amusing hunt for old stage costumes.
We took a sea going taxi - and scuttled off to the neighborhood of the Bastile - and soon found our game - One large establishment - Coudert - where they had quantities of material but showed: at first no desire to sell anything
Madame V. finally persuaded them into a promise that to-morrow they would fish out something for us to look over - it seems a very promising place - Near by we found a funny little place - where a wild lady - a large growling dog. and a low speaking parrot kept shop - here we found a lot of old Theatrical stuff - and bought 21 costumes 7 pair of epaulettes, and 7 hats for 135 francs which was the cheapest bargain I ever made. We came back to H.Q. with this variegated freight
Saw John Craig to-day - who reports a good beginning made on the Masque of Jean d'Arc. - He came down from Neufchateau to get together a cast to play "Baby Mine" in and around Neufchateau while the rehearsals of Jeann are in progress.
Saw Henry to-day. who gave me Denmans pathetic letter - wish we could have avoided giving him all this trouble about the young man. E.B
Wednesday. August 21
Went this morning with Madame Vignon to an address we know of where Theatrical costumes were to be found - we found them - in great quantities - just what I wanted and for very good price indeed.
After lunch we went again to [[?]] Bros. and bought 43 dress coats about 15 old suits - some hats and a few [[?]] of old white gloves - a good bargain - for 335 francs
