Coca-raising is the chief industry in this region which lies north of La Paz on the Amazon slope of the Cordillera (or Andes). A small irrigated valley among arid hills along the railroad above Arequipa. The crops are habas (broad bean), alfalfa and barley. Altitude about 10000 feet.
