1235. A deep gorge on the bay to Baños, Ecuador. The scenery in this region was magnificent. This is on the eastern slope of the Andes as the road drops to the Amazon Valley.

1130. A native plow. The man is a negro. Negroes are not common at the upper altitudes (this was at Loja, about 7000 feet), but are common in the lowlands.
