"This is the young man who [[runs?]] the place, that I told you about.. He stands up and puts out his hand and I take it but relax my grasp as Carol says "I suppose you think it strange that he's here. and she laughs again. I say "It does seem a little strange." Then she says "It's all right isn't it?" and I say "Well you know better whether it's all right than I do." The young man seems embarrassed - Carol says "He's been very good to us. he's helped me a lot and I liked to have him come over & that's why he's here." I reply [[strikethrough]] with [[/strikethrough]] "That's very good of you I'm sure. You're very kind." Carol laughs again slightly, thinking that any remark is ironical probably. Then the young man gets up to go. Carol goes to the door with him and asks him to come over tomorrow afternoon.
He shakes hands and I tell him to come again.

I notice a figure over the rocks quite nearby the veranda I call "What is it?" and get no answer Then I ask Carol who it is. and she says it looks like the young man. Then the figure crouches behind the rock and I hear footsteps on the earth as he disappears. Strange enough. Carol says when I ask her what to make of it that she thinks he must have come back to see if she were all right thinking perhaps that I might raise a row with her. Strange strange! I sit a long time with Carol talking about the strange affair. She considers it all very natural and proper She admits she likes the young fellow because he was kind in helping her get settled in the house, that he says he likes to talk with her because she helps him. Then she says that Roy Parsons came up the night before and
