She tells me what an awful time Hopkinson had against the Boston artists. They set against him so hard Hale especially  Miss O says Hale wrote a terrific article in the Herald against Hopkinson saying he was simply a bad painter and going on to explain why. Yet when I met Hopkinson in Boston last year it was Hale who
introduced him. Poor Miss Oliver. She seemed to feel it strongly that we did not invite her to show with the "Eclectics"  She has a pastel head of a young girl here now that is very beautiful. She mentions [[?]] and I say that his interior now at the Guild is the best thing there.  Miss Oliver shouts "I'm so glad  thats just what Mr Sloan says and I think so too. That's his own studio he has painted M Sloan says its finer than [[Mestonier?]]."  Miss Oliver says she likes Sloan likes him for his speech last year and the Atwood dinner in which he tore into things Miss O says "He's a Socialist and I like Socialists." I say His socialism is a humbug." Miss O says "Is it? Miss O says he's a Tory & Boston hates Tories, she's in a Hearst paper and every body hates it 
and yet she seems so very happy [[n-?]]

having fun in the Herald. He calls you the Sage of Wonsunhurst and my paper
the 'tiser. Miss O tells of Sherbune who writes Boston for Townsend and says Miss Henderson who did the "Post" sat Princeton? I suggest to Miss O that we paint each other. Its quarter to 12   say "we can be done at 1 o'Clock. So she gets out canvas & proceeds.  e work till her sister comes in to take her to lunch and Miss O gets up to see my portrait of her "Oh my" she says very pleased  "it's terribly like me."  Her head of me is fine in color. I wish I could be around and see more
of her work. I believe all she needs is
the proper encouragement to offset the
deadly Boston influence. I tell her of meeting
[[Turbell?]] & finding him agreeable. "Isn't he nice" she says & Hale says such terrible things about him. Miss Os sister beams over my
portrait & seems to like it says she'll
sit if I promise to make her handsome. Off home to see Carol & get ready to go to Hartford tomorrow. Carol sets
