Friday 9 Aug. over to studio to see what picture
I want to send with "The Widow". Stop to see Val. who is getting ready for the show tomorrow with Miss Nielson.

Saturday 10 Aug.  small pictures still at Gallery with me as fog and rain makes posponment.  Atwood on hand as usual.  P.M. over to Vale & Mis Neilson late  find big crowd there.  Atwood & his wife included  Stand with Val at door  Miss Oliver comes over & says something.  Atwood bows.  Miss O brings
over Mr Brush cousin of G. de F. B and says "Oh
want you to know Mr. Britton"  Brush is very rich color  Neat black mustache & grey clothes"
Well Miss Oliver we should paint him.  Teresa
Bernstein comes over & Miss Brush comes back with a Miss. - who says she met me at Miss Olivers last summer.  Then I remember she was doing a head bas relief  Can't recall her name.  Val introduces Bryant Baker the young sculptor who is teaching Miss Neilson.  He is rather a nice looking young chap short & well built smooth face dark hair nicely cut & combed.  His nose has a little English
cockney tilt.  He seems like good military timber & has "come over" since the

war.  Talked a bit modestly  not a bad chap  Val says I'm to exhibit with him in his place.  I suggest to Baker to have some things too.  He says "Oh that wouldnt be good cricket, I couldn't do anything like that.  It wouldn't be fair to Miss Neilson"  All of which is pretty good since no one wanted to persuade him to anything.  People begin to go, so I go on to see Baker's bust of Pres. Wilson of which a clipping claiming its superiority to Sargents portrait Val showed me.  Not a bad head fantastic bronzed.  Baker passes some good cake and dear little Miss Neilson the younger brings me punch and then nice cakes.  She had come out to ask me in and [[?]] as I
