be able to bring good things for Carol & the children . Carol makes a good supper and I change my cloths. Merain continues to tell the roof as I tell Carol that her dear friend Ruth is dead. With everything else this news upsets Carol terribly. After white we go to bed and at midnight I wake to find the water dripping from roof on to the bed and find Carol & the children all perspiration and Carol awake in a terrible nervous state and the rain peeling the roof and the ocean roaring over the rocks. Oh such a night, awake under that dripping roof with the pelts of rain riddling on it and all perspiration afraid to move for fear of catching terrible cold. Carol [[strikethrough]] gets [[/strikethrough]] the honor of the night as I do and we hope for clear morrow so we can get away. Sun comes up in morning.
Friday 27th Sep fierce agitation getting ready to get Vincents for the Summer Carol declaring she never wants to come again. Go down to get the car and as we wait Edith Anderson comes along and says that Ruths brother Chester is dead too. Oh oh that poor family Ruth gone, Martha gone and now Chester - as well as Ralphs two body Sherman and Nester from Camp Devens. All Gloucester is awed to thinking of only one thing the terrible epidemic and the deaths. Poor people poor people Ruth gone sunny beautiful Ruth and Martha good Martha and Chester whom I met in Vale only a week or so ago with his photos from Vals pictures. Carol & children & I on to Boston have to rush to get only possible train. I stop at Hatford for new trials Garol on to Waterbury for a visit at her grandmas.
