He has an army automobile with him and takes me with a crowd of his chums off toward the ferry but gets a tire punctured on Col. St and has to get out to fix it.  So I go onto the ferry alone.

Sunday 22 Dec  rain.  over to Brooklyn to paint the portrait of Wilson   work all day

Monday 23 Dec

Tuesday 24 Christmas eve warm rain.  Get some things in 7th Ave and with Carol arrange them all so kids will see them when they wake.

Wednesday 25  Christmas  have dinner over at Mrs Sherwins 1116 W 11th St with Carol & Jerome & Teresa, Mrs S & her 3 kids & Mrs L.
Kids all sit at second table and Teresa is very amusing sitting in the middle quietly with her little head in the midst of the masses of huge curly heads of the Sherwins.  Jerome quiet and they all seem very happy.   James & Teresa were up early and were very amused with their toys

Thursday 26 Dec  over to Brooklyn  work on portrait of Pres. Wilson

around with her.  Finally stop in big gallery upstairs for a long chat.  She says she thought my note in the "Art News" about Knoedlers Washington was very funny.  G L Nelson comes in to get his wife  I tell him about Dunlaps book and G-L tells his wife to make a note of it and get it.  N agrees with me as to the Straits.  Stop at Art News  Mrs Leven alone.   Find in Vol 1 of "Beautiful Lady Craven" 2 Vols in Art News Library in eng. by R Purcell of a portrait of Caroline Duchess Marlboro after Reynolds which is the identical pattern of Copley's Met Mr & Mrs [Mary?] Bowers even to the folds in the gown the dog on the lap and the arrangement of the hands The face of course is different.  "Art News" Jan 22. 1916 reproduced the Copley   Rose at breast chair and landscape b.g. all identical [[underline]] extraordinary case [[/underline]]  Could Copley have been a plagiarist.  Amazing Mrs Lever sees the terrible likeness of the two.
