Tuesday Jan 21 stop at Knoedlers find 3 portraits by L Betts a big bluff imitation of Sargent handley clever but heads vacant + ill drawn. Find Hayley Lever in print room admiring McBey's etchings of war country. I take him upstairs to see Higgins show. Find Higgins there introduce Lever who proceeds to recall Higgins in Paris and the old nook studio he had L says to me as Higgins smiles "He was a real artist." After L chatters a great deal I see a man approaching me. He smiles & puts out his hand. Bertram Hartman, actually fat after his stay in New Hampshire [[Creish?]] which he says is on the Connecticut River. Says Maxfield Parrish has magnificent place up their.
