As I enter Kingore has a party of people in the lower gallery including Gregg of "Herald" and as I come in Kingore steps onto the Stairway and salutes me with great ceremony before this crowd.  Then he comes into the upper gallery and beams as he comes over hurriedly "Mr Britton he says "Im so glad to see you I had dinner with Anisfeld and Dr Brinton the other night and Anisfeld said "There is only one critic in New York and that is Mr. J. B.  Dr. Brinton said the same thing."  I say "Why of course it's true of course it's true.  Kingore laughs and says "Why of course it is we know it is."  He is very happy over the big suc success of Anisfields opera settings at the Metropolitan.  Mrs Nelson comes in with the Brooklyn Eagle critic  Mrs N. tries to say some patronizing things about Anisfeld.  I have to put down the law to her and the one from Brooklyn.  Kingore introduces Mrs. Jerome Myers who seems to know me.  Find her very pleasant.  Chats about her husband and pays tribute to my [[uncotale?]] recognition of Anisfeld.  Says her husband

Jerome Myers would be very glad if I'd see his show coming at Milek.  Mrs. M says she studied under Chase with DuBois.
As I walk up Madison Ave Altman comes up and I take him over to see the show of Sam Woolfs war pictures at Milek's.  Meet Groll over there and see a good sky by him down stairs.  Woolfs pictures are weakly drawn.  his port of Pershing the best but marred by a lack of refined [[pose?]] in the jaw. - coarsened and made obviously pugilistic.  Altman agrees.  Stop at Art News after [strikethrough] for [[/strikethrough]] dinner find Mrs Lever at work with some staff with her  She tells me T gets $40 for batch of old catalogs  I say I must have ten for looking them all over & classifying them.

Tuesday 28 Jan. Stop at Macbeths to see show of CH [[Dains?]] and Paul Dougherty  Minute [[Jeulr?]] I see Townsend who comes toward me beaming and puts out his hand  A little distant away I see a small woman in black - his companion - he doesn't introduce her as we go into the other gallery & T tells me how he is giving Philip [[Lithis?]] identity away  after encouraging him to write slanderous letters from Boston for Art News [[publication?]] - T says
