Murphy if he knows Vose & he says "Yes, Weir says to me the other night at the Lotus Club "Did you ever get a letter from Vose" he says "he's funny, he's dictatorial."  Then Murphy says [[strikethrough]] [[ther?]] [[/strikethrough]] "Vose writes to me and tells me what kind of trees to paint he's very funny.  I mention Bunce & Murphy beams as he recalls him.  Murphy says Granville Smith spoke of me over at Salmagundi other night and says something about Smith and a jury that I don't quite understand.  He talks fast and says "These dealers are queer chaps.  They don't know what to make of me  They say I don't care for money.  Says Gerrity & Heuschel passed a picture of his a Lotus Club without a word but later came to his studio & tried to buy it.  M says "Kirby's the boy  he's done more for me" than anybody.

Says "Now they all want to buy pictures from me. but when I wanted to sell them and needed to nobody wanted them."  M. says he thinks the Montross sale at AAA will be a good one says he sold Montross 2 ps for it.  We walk out as far as Broadway Murphy talking incessantly & calling me "Britton" and seeming to know all about what is done in "Art News".  M says Townsend was mixed up in Stanford White case just enough to find it convenient to go to Europe during the trial.  M asks me to come up & see him at the studio some afternoon & have a smoke.  Walk up to see Frank Rehn in his new gallery.  Meet Groll there who has a fine sky picture there  I tell Rehn I'd like to reproduce it.  Groll pleased Says he knows a man who'll write about him.  Rehn shows me every thing in his private gallery a lot of his fathers things & I suggest a memorial
