Andersen Galleries to see the British War Show "The Orpheus".  Find Orpheus very strong and individual, graphic, picturesque, direct powerful.  But lacking the technical excellences that Americans of the moment have been taught to look for.  Meet Dickinson & Cap Nave.  See them coming in looking very distinguished Dickinson with his long black overcoat and stick.  Cap with his big black coat with the enormous fur collar.  Cap. begins to rave about the badness of the stuff.  Dickinson says "I can't see it  I can't see that color."  I say "I told you he had no color  Jim prepared for no color.  But look at the portrait of Foch" (I had sat down in front of the Foch as the one place to sit)  I say to D and the Captain.  "Look at the Foch.  There's the Generallissimo, the man who had the war game bagged.  He sits down and smiles.  Orpheus seizes him in this calm manner.  A great piece of character analysis.  No bombast, no smoke, no cannon [[strikethrough]] no sword [[/strikethrough]] not even a sword [[strikethrough]] [[fast]] [[/strikethrough]] just a mere simple man of iron relaxed in a most human manner.
