Dickinson holds out on the store of "those burnt sienna heads" Singles out what I think is the worst head of all the brown b.g. one of an Irish looking chap with mere mask brushed in. I tell him to look at the young chap in blue with red stripe on trouser sitting against a tent jaw wrapped up in aviators bandage. We all agree the head of Haig is poor or rather the entire picture is poor head not so bad - But also all agree that the outdoor things are smashing fine "Two dead Germans in a trench" at the snow The Cap. & I are sitting right in front of it & the Capt. admits it's mighty fine. [[strikethrough]] I say [[/strikethrough]] I suspect that pleased N as anything. See Dickinson later & we go over to dine. Then return to Mountforts studio to [[call?]] up Griffin & to Mrs. Lever. Mrs. L says Townsend heard about my review from Kirby of Am. Art Assoc.! Couldn't be better. He could not have had the news from stronger source - next he'll get it from Burton [[Thauscupt?]] and [[Beal?]] will talk to him.
Stopped at the [[Dousk?]] Club to see Miss Judson. Saw little man across room who begins to wave his arms and do dervish antics. My eyes don't get him first but when he yells "Jimmie" I find it's Hayley Lever. He comes over and introduces Gifford Beal who is to me as unattractive as his pictures looks like a minister in distress & sad faced then acid smooth faced grey visaged eyeglasses soft collar bum clothes (and Miss Judson says his people are rich & his wife of millionaires) Good. When [[strikethrough]] Ill [[/strikethrough]] tell them about the new review they grow very enthusiastic - very - very and Wed 18 Feb.
