'Independence' & I get quite excited.  Johnson says he thinks Ireland will get homerule and his wife says if Ireland doesn't get Independence she'll become a bolshevist  Nan goes for Johnson for not seeing through Wilson & upholding us in contention that Cohalan did the right thing and Wilson the wrong in the incident at the Metropolitan Opera House.  [[W?]] refused to see the Irish delegates if Cohalan remained. -- The delegates resented this & were all about to withdraw when Cohalan persuaded them to stay & see the president and let him retire.  They stayed & put it up to Wilson who said he was in sympathy but could not promise a line of action.  Stop to see Carol Eve find her reading and in good mood.  I go up town to get the Sunday papers.  Find nothing in the "Herald" but in the "Sun" McBrides "jewel" notice of the Expressionists.

Sunday 16 March  rain all day  Dine with Carol and the little ones who are sublime  Afternoon walk up to see Dickinson in rain.  On

  55th St Cap Nave's auto. passes an Mrs Nave leans out the covers and waves her hand.  Go in to Caps place and find he's got new [[strikethrough]] [[carps?]] [[/strikethrough]] rugs and wall covering.  Tell him what ails his portrait of Dickinson.  Cap. agrees.  Good.  Miss Felcher comes to invite us to tea and we all go in there.  Find Mountford  spend. the afternoon.  Dickinson soon as he steps out of Caps auto runs up to me and says How's this Mr. McBride of the "Sun"  are you going to kill him?"  I say "Why, I think that jewel is great stuff, a little classic."  Dickinson highly aroused over it but seems surprised that I'm not furious.  How now  So he brings out the clipping & I read to Cap + Mrs. Nave who think it all right.  "That's good stuff," says the Cap  "The more you can
