Saturday Mar 22 stop at the Captains find Dickinson and the Cap just back from Academy both agree Molaski's portrait of his mother is [[underlined]] the [[/underlined]] portrait of the show. Talk it all over and I suggest revival of Soc. of American Artists - Captain seconds idea strongly make a list of men right away. Cap strong for it. Dickinson says "I'm a painter I'll do anything I can, but I don't want to get into a thing that's going to take a lot of time and thought. My paint is the thing for me." I'd be in favor of giving Mr. Britton a salary as secretary and let him go at it, but as it is I don't see how he can do it." But the Captain goes at it hot. He's sure he's been fired out of the Academy Show after buying two $100 frames. D is willing evidently to bide his luck hoping for better at next show. But considering his three were shut out it's pretty bad for him.

Sunday 23 Mar drop over to see Captain Ledyard Toule who is still in army and having in hand the paintings for Fifth Ave. windows to boost the next loan. Asks me if I'll do one. I tell him of my "1917" nude and he says he'll put it in. I ask him why he hasn't been painted in uniform. He says "Why don't you do it." I say I will. He puts on his big army furcoat and stands [[strikethrough]]f[[/strikethrough]] in a pose. His wife is on hand and talks a great deal. Says they used to go up to tea in Dewing's studio and found T.W. and his wife very quiet, carefree, and kind.
