In 1755 Major George Washington late aide de camp to General Braddock visited Boston for the sake of relating to Gov Shirley the circumstances [[strikethrough]] of t [[/strikethrough]] attending the death of [[strikethrough]] Gen Braddock [[/strikethrough]] that Gentleman's gallant son at the fatal battle of the Monongahela. It was then well known that the courage & experience of Major Washington and the steadfastness of the Colonial troops had saved the remnant of the British army on that day; and the young Virginian was, naturally, the observed of all observers. Mr. Copley painted his portrait in miniature, which after remaining in the Washington family for many years came into the possession of Washington Irving and from him to the late Mr. George P. Clean Out the Village by Brian Mangen

Greenwich Village is [[strikethrough]] undoubtedly [[/strikethrough]] admittedly a case for the police. But the police must keep their gloves clean -- so we suppose that is why they have let the Village go its own way in [[strikethrough]] dirt and [[/strikethrough]] depravity. There has been talk however among some of the decent people who live there and there are some decent ones left of banding together to preserve the old spirit of the village and drive out the scavengers and exploiters who have fastened on to this attractive section of New York City.
The police could help even if they did soil their gloves. It would not be difficult for the police to get evidence against certain of the most vicious of the [[strikethrough]] leeches [[/strikethrough]] human leeches that prey so flagrantly in the neighborhood of Washington Square. Those "business men" who hire studios only for use at night - those rotten creatures that post as artists. - those depraved women who flaunt contempt for all the decencies [[?]] examples for the young girl students who come to New York form clean homes all over the country.
If I could get a message to the mothers of young girls who come to New York to study art I should say Keep them home. They are no match for the vile parasitical men & women degenerates who make a special prey [[strikethrough]] upon [[/strikethrough]] of innocent provincials. There cannot be any art of consequence where there is [[ink blot covers a couple of words]]
