Twachtman the American impressionist par excellence, a finer landscapist ^[[and more [[strikethrough]] various [[/strikethrough]] versatile than any of the impressionist Frenchmen with the possible exception of Pissarro, was a painter after Blakelocks own heart. Making himself independent by teaching a few hours each week, Twachtman went [[strikethrough]] his [[/strikethrough]] about his quiet way painting the great outdoors in a manner true to himself. Heeding no demands but those of his own [[strikethrough]] super [[/strikethrough]] sensitive nature and fine intelligence he produce3d a series of canvases that have mounted [[strikethrough]] [[illegible]] [[/strikethrough]]
in value by leaps and bounds these last few years. [[strikethrough]] Heeding [[/strikethrough]] Following [[strikethrough]] the inspiration of [[/strikethrough]] as firmly as did the [[inspired?]] Blakelock the [[strikethrough]] [[Heart?]] [[/strikethrough]] injunction of Shakespeare "To thine own self be true" Twachtman rounded out in a short life time (he died in 19 at the age of 46) a career of [[strikethrough]] [[illegible]] [[/strikethrough]] extraordinary productivity with a power that few suspected in his day. [[strikethrough]] In [[/strikethrough]] Twachtman's debt to the French impressionists is considerable but like every great man he developed from an [[adapted?]] precept a personal expression, one [[spiritually?]] modern and advanced. [[strikethrough]] To him [[/strikethrough]] He held [[strikethrough]] aloft [[/strikethrough]] out ^[[for]] the principle of [[strikethrough]] more light [[/strikethrough]] luminosity in treating subjects of the open air when America was still bound to the rich depths of tone [[strikethrough]] rendered [[/strikethrough]] given vogue by the followers of the Barbizon press.
