  I made this composition while Roosevelt was President and was activated by his speech at the Sorbonne in Paris [[strikethrough]] where he [[/strikethrough]] in [[strikethrough]] when [[/strikethrough]] which he paid so noble a tribute of the dignity of labor and the sanctity of family and the home.  The main impulse for the [[pestiation?]] of the great American came from mental notes made during a speech Roosevelt "[[declaimed?]] at Charter Oak park in 19" in a pelting rain.  It was in this speech he advocated the use of the [[strikethrough]] school [[/strikethrough]] public school [[strikethrough]] strucres [[/strikethrough]] buildings as "Senate houses of the plain people."

The Black & White Section is poor.

     November 1 move into 18 Gay St. 3rd floor old house  5 room  front one light  two windows.  War stopped building and scarcity of living quarters makes this necessary for present, later change

    Wednesday night 19th Nov. off with copy of paper to New Haven.  Find Lily sick & Minnie taking care of her.  Also Minnie's brother who says he'd like to collect etchings go off to Hartford late  sleep a bit in my studio, up early to clean & look over my stuff.  Green next door stupid as ever.  PM out to see mother, who is terribly failed.
