Call to see Mrs. Lever who seems well. Says she is better since she left Art News "Townsends perfidy I couldn't stand any longer" Says while T was in Europe she kept the paper going while Altman was making some weeks as high $80 while she was getting 29. That when T got home Townsend cut him down & Altman said he'd leave T said to her "Why isn't Altman foolish he had such a good chance here. Why if anything should happen to me he'd have the whole business in his hands." "Really" said Mrs. Lever and how about me after I've been managing the office for so long." T was caught. T then told her that Altman said the Art News would be better without her. So that was last word especially when she heard T had told them all that she was ill that she'd soon be leaving and that then they would all do better for wages. So she could not stand it any longer. She says T called on her lately & talked a lot of nonsense Says Nelson of "Inter Studio" who was at Art News before she left used to ask her of T "Does he ever tell the truth?" Mrs. L says Reinhardt paid T, C. Brinton & Nelson $250 each to get up the show of landscapes So--!
& that Levy has paid them similar sum to get the exhibition of the [[Hasenewly?]] National portraits. So!---- & that Nelson told Quistgaard about it & Q was wild as he didn't want them to show at Levys.
