Sea seems rougher and little steamer dances considerably. Mediocre food - Some stewards seem seasick.  After awhile this little boat seems bigger than it is altho' it is only the size of small Hudson River boats. Some expressions came back quickly but I am unable to get out of the maze of regular and irregular verbs.  I guess I shall have to limit my vocabulary.  Tried Spanish with the deck steward

A crowd of hotel runners at custom examination.  The latter pure formality of opening valises.  Went first to Sevilla hotel, absolutely full.  So tried [[red underline]] Inglaterra [[/red underline]].- many applicants there too.  Got a simple room - no bath for six dollars (!) american a night - without meals.  Streets of [[red underline]] Havannah [[/red underline]] very animated.  Many electric light advertising signs and much noise and movement until very late.  Houses in spanish-european style.  cement and white stone predominating.  Private houses have grating before windows. Narrow streets with smells like those of 
Annecy.  Got to bed at about 11. P.M.
