March 29. After good night's sleep we got up early but our train was two hours late on account of trouble with engine. We are now in [[red underline]] Louisiana [[/red underline]] - Some turpentine woods. Long leaf pine here. Palmettos make appearance, also spanish moss on trees. Green foliage is still scarce altho' we see now and then a peach tree in bloom Succession of swamps.  We are nearing spring now. and trees are budding others are green Primeval woods in swamps with big trees in fantastic forms then branches bearded with spanish moss. Green, yellow and red buds of trees make a pretty color scheme

then succession of bayous, gulfs and flat meadows with [[strikethrough]] dried [[/strikethrough]] dry long meadow grass of last season. Not yet green. Then finally arrived at [[red underline]] New-Orleans [[/red underline]]. Drove to hotel in Taxicab. Grünerwald Hotel Our pleasant room and bath $7.00 a day for both. Feel much pleased. It is not too warm just pleasant enough for light clothing and winter underwear no overcoat needed. [[strikethrough]] Celine made [[/strikethrough]] We walked thru "vieux carré" or french quarter. Dirty and neglected and very delapidated. Ramshackle homes, with broken windows everywhere. All unpainted, dirty and falling apart. For oddity's sake went for lunch at Madame Begere's restaurant. of whom everybody speaks. Situated in one of the old dirty streets.
