14 [[New England written vertically in red in left margin]] Threatening weather but rained only for a short time. Beautiful mountain scenery and fine woods, good driving everywhere finally arrived at Flume House, Profile House. Saw Indian head profile then later on this excellent gravel road thru the virgin forest, glimpse of Old Man in the Mountain thru the clouds. Unusually pretty landscape everywhere. Then long drive thru the woods with distant mountain ranges in sight. Twin Mountain Station etc. Finally at about 5:30 P.M arrived at Mount Washington Hotel, beautifully situated in [[red underline]] Bretton Woods [[/red underline]] This hotel is built in an unusual scale of size, comfort and luxury. We had excellent rooms [[end page]] [[start page]] 15 [[New England written vertically in red in left margin]] facing the [[red underline]] White Mountains [[/red underline]] and we all felt delighted. This is certainly a place to come again. Everything seems perfect. Excellent service and everything pleasant, cheerful and clean. Celine and Nina went to bed early. I went to listen to excellent concert in ballroom. This day we made 122 miles July 20 It rained in torrents all night and this morning the mountains were covered by clouds. All three went out for a long walk thru the woods along the little foaming torrent which thunders down over white granite rocks and boulders.
