the canal (From Troy to Whitehall?). At [[red underline]] Whitehall [[/red underline]] there is now one big lock of a drop of about 20 feet. We arrived there at 4:40 but they would not lock us on account of orders so we had to wait almost two hours. While we were tied on wharf I bought some supplies but almost all stores were locked on account of [[red underline]] Labor Day. [[/red underline]] Finally towards dark got thru lock (6:20 P.M)
Selected some spot about 1 mile from town where we dropped two small anchors, one fore and one aft. Same fear of [[red underline]] mosquitoes [[/red underline]] made us mind turning on lights. Simple supper of cheese and crackers for me while Albert cooked for himself. Light but continuous rain during the night
We should have anchored about a mile further where it is much prettier.
