Going up [[strikethrough]] somewhat [[/strikethrough]] in locks somewhat more difficult than going down, requires [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] extra long fenders or two fenders one for protecting top, the other for the sides of hull when coming out. About noon were in [[underlined in red]] St. Johns. [[/underlined in red]] Gave up my canal permit at last lock. Then went to see [[underlined in red]] Mr. Quesnel [[/underlined in red]] at Custom house to return him my custom house permit

Everybody comes home in launches with large strings of fish. We tried our hand but unsuccessfully altho' we had every kind of fresh bait. Finally tried near Lenox Fort which has excellent reputation for fishing and where we saw several boats trawling. Caught nothing, not even a bite. Anchored there over night. Thunder and rain storm while I was in bed.

Sept 17. Spent morning leisurely trying fishing unsuccessfully at several points. Finally anchored near Light House, opposite Hospital Island in channel, and in shelter of Southerly breeze. Again fine weather. Examined engine and find everything O.K. While Albert is trying to do some
