Oct 1. 1915 Rain.  Early dictating and telephone calls as usually till after lunch.  Then to New York.  [[# 1 h. correspondence in written in left margin]] went to bank to get my [[red underline]] 100 shares New York Air Brake Common which has risen to 160 from the 76 [[/red underline]] I bought it at some two or three years ago.  I sold it at 160 and delivered it at office of Warren Erwin & Co.  Mr. Erwin gave me a receipt.  Then I went to Chas Jones & Co other brothers who deal in Kansas City Mexico and Orient securities of unpleasant remembrance  Mr. Jones is a pleasant man

who wanted to induce me to buy some short notes of the Orient R.R. which would net about 6% [[red underline]] I told him I knew of better [[/red underline]] opportunities of placing my money.  Placed an order with him until canceled for [[red underline]] 100 Royal Braking Common at 153. [[/red underline]] Then went to office.  May explains me worries with our new 640 at [[strikethrough]] John's [[strikethrough]] [[red underline]] Jones Spratts Co. [[/red underline]] Minute [[red underline]] cracks [[/red underline]] developing on molded pieces. Called Rossi at 'phone.  He has not yet succeeded in overcoming the trouble.  Matter looks serious since we had to stop making 450 [[red underline]] on account of shortage of phenol. [[/red underline]]  On the other hand [[red underline]] sales have been excellent [[/red underline]]. Last month is a [[red underline]] record breaker [[/red underline]] as ^[[delivered]] sales for [[red underline]] September were $52000. [[/red underline]] Took  supper at Chemists Club then went home with 8:45 P.M  No news from [[red underline]] George [[/red underline]] at Cornell
