Hutchinson read the report of [[red underline]] Edison [[/red underline]] he wants [[red underline]] 5 to six millions and about 2 to 3 million yearly. [[red underline]] Whitney, Woodward [[/red underline]] and myself are much more modest  We only wanted about $100.000 for a laboratory.  I  told them however that [[red underline]] Edison [[/red underline]] is [[strikethrough]] entiled [[strikethrough]] entitled to his own views if he can carry them out but that first question which comes up we should consult the officers of the Navy before proceeding further.  [[red underline]] So I asked them to  participate in our [[/red underline]] deliberations.  When they arrived I explained the situation to them and asked whether they had any objections to a laboratory of this magnitude.  They smiled, said they had no objections -- would be glad but all doubted whether such subsidy would ever be granted by Congress.
