Most interesting paper is that of [[red underline]] Landers on nitric acid from [[/red underline]] the air as it is practiced in Germany today. He says we [[red underline]] are now in this country in just as good a condition as Germany was at beginning [[/red underline]] of the war.

Mrs. May, Celine and Nina went to New York to see impersonification of Lincoln. May and I discussing policy of [[red underline]] General Bakelite [[/red underline]] Co. [[red underline]] May [[/red underline]] seems satisfied about his bonus altho' [[red underline]] not enthusiastically so. Says Gordon [[/red underline]] is dissatisfied and expected more which rather astonishes me. More snow and quite cold.

Feb 14. Here all day. Decidedly cold.

Feb 15. Went to New York first to [[red underline]] Hooker [[red underline]] office where met Elon and Willard Hooker, also a [[red underline]] Russian officer [[/red underline]] who came to speak about purchasing chlorine for his government. [[red underline]] Hooker urges me once more to become director of Research Corporation [[/red underline]] 
[[annotation in right margin]] (of Cottrell) of which he is now president. The Presidency had been offered to me some time ago by Charles Parsons & Cottrell who came specially to visit me in Yonkers for this purpose.
