[[/red underline]] There was a large gathering. Many army and navy Uniforms. First time I saw most of these men in uniform. First reception of [[red underline]] Wilson since he is ^[[re-]] married? [[/red underline]] We met many people we know, mostly of [[red underline]] Naval Board [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] or officers [[/red underline]] of Navy. Secretary [[red underline]] Daniels [[/red underline]] was [[strikethrough]] unusu [[/strikethrough]] very friendly and chummy and so was his wife. [[red underline]] Nothing of the usual european stiffness and pose [[/red underline]] one would encounter in Europe on similar occasions [[red underline]] Everything cheerful [[/red underline]] natural, simple and friendly.

March 4. I spent most of time at [[red underline]] Cosmos Club. [[/red underline]] Celine went to visit Mrs. Townsend who is very ill. Evening we both went to Theatre to see "Marie-Odelle", a well played piece.

March 5. (Sunday) Celine left for New York.- There is a Trolley Car strike. I hired a motor car and drove to Chevey Chase Golf Club for lunch with [[red underline]] Buchenstein and Sutton. [[/red underline]] All afternoon on golf-links with them. Very windy and cold. Evening supper at Club.

March 6. Spent most of day talking to 
^[[Herbert]] [[red underline]] Quick [[/red underline]] and Acree. The latter has a process for a new nitro cellulose solvent. Afternoon went to Townsend who shows me results of his [[red underline]] NaO2 chlorination [[/red underline]]
