May 1. 1916. -- [[red underline]] The President [[/red underline]] much supported in his decisive attitude compelling Germany to agree on the Submarine controversy.  If Germany does not back down her arrogance there will be [[red underline]] a break of diplomatic relations followed perhaps at next outrage by a formal declaration of war.  The Irish riots in Dublin and the surrender of british Garrison in Turkey are disquietening happenings. [[/red underline]]
Busy all day dictating.  Then towards 4 P.M. Rudolf Eickemeyer came here on a visit.  This evening Celine and I went to a Photoplay in Yonkers.
May 2.  A very busy day entirely consumed in dictating specifications for [[red underline]] two patents [[/red underline]] relative to the production
