Aug 26. Left early for Westport (7AM). Beautiful clear weather - splendid landscape. Distant mountains of Adirondacks. AT 10AM arrived at [[red underlined]] West Port Inn [[/red underlined]] and find important news of [[red underlined]] no special importance so went back north. [[/red underlined]] Tied up near steamboat landing of [[red underlined]] Champlain Hotel [[/red underlined]] and went for supper there. Many of the [[red underlined]] volunteer camp there [[/red underlined]] - Magnificent view, and elaborate hotel grounds - Poor service execrable music. Noted a number of [[red underlined]] Spanish americans but mostly volunteers [[/red underlined]]

Evening went back to our boat
Aug 27. (Sunday) Awakened by arrival of Lake Steamer - then swimming then to hotel. Afternoon visit to camp in rain. [[red underlined]] All men [[/red underlined]] make impression of [[red underlined]] great earnestness and good [[strikethrough]] breeding [[/strikethrough]] education As long as [[strikethrough]] this is [[/strikethrough]] our country possesses such men there is little danger. [[/red underlined]] All these men are [[red underlined]] sacrificing their vacation for this strenuous camp life and severe discipline.[[/red underlined]] Evening supper at Hotel.
