In one of the locks met a canoe with three men - Canoes name is [[red underlined]] "Cahateda" [[/red underlined]] which they tell me is the indian name for the Upper Hudson and means: [[red underlined]] Water Born ^[[Boulder Born?]] [[/red underlined]] on boulders. A very appropriate name for the part of the river strewn with boulders and with such a hard rocky bed. About 2:30 arrived thru last lock at Troy. All this now seems to lose in interest. - [[red underlined]] my vacation seems near its end. [[/red underlined]] Lovely weather. Tied up at [[red underlined]] Coeymans [[/red underlined]] behind breakwater - well protected against passing steamers. This seems favorite anchorage for yachtsmen from Albany. Went ashore - note a large [[end page]] [[start page]] 151 number of [[red underlined]] colored men from nearby brick - kilns. [[/red underlined]] A small village. Bright night. - sitting on deck towards 9 P.M saw pretty display of [[red underlined]] Aurora Borealis, [[/red underlined]] first an arc of diffused white light then radiating beams of white light like distant searchlights. Sept 3 (Sunday) Another beautiful day.
