honeysuckle. Then later a glowing sunset and a full bright big silvery moon arising over the colored foliage. - How beautiful! These are instants which make a trip like this worthy of being remembered.
Arrived [[underlined in red]] Chesapeake City [[/underlined in red]] ^[[Md.]] just before [[strikethrough]] night evening [[/strikethrough]] dark and tied up on wharf. Good basin. Very quiet place only a few houses. Took a 3 mile stroll in moonlight before going to bed 
My sleeping bag comes in handy. Nights are becoming cold.
Oct 12. Up early. Calm weather but foggy. 
Locked thru last lock at 6:40 A.M. and started down Black River. Golden sunshine thru fog: but fog makes it advisable to stop while [[overwritten]] taking [[/overwritten]] making breakfast. Quiet reposeful landscape. Crooked river well buoyed. 
At 7:45 started again. [[strikethrough]] Fine [[/strikethrough]] Pretty wooded shores - no houses.

very suggestive name - in a dreamy beautiful morning like this. On the right shore (West) some pretty country residences on sandy bluff - with docks 
Also some prettily situated farms 
Bright weather and good navigation thru the Sound. Number of fishnets - poles. Near [[underlined in red]] Baltimore [[/underlined in red]] entrance well buoyed channel and some more [[strikethrough]] navigation [[/strikethrough]] ships. [[strikethrough]] fo [[/strikethrough]] at about 1:30 P.M. entered [[underlined in red]] Severn River. [[/underlined in red]] Beautiful buildings of [[underlined in red]] Naval Academy [[/underlined in red]] make splendid [[strikethrough]] Back [[/strikethrough]] back ground. Landed at wharf of [[underlined in red]] Testing Laboratory. [[/underlined in red]] Captain [[underlined in red]] Kincaid [[/underlined in red]] and others astonished to see me there. Bullard wanted to [[underlined in red]] rush to telephone and notify. Mayor [[/underlined in red]] of my arrival, [[underlined in red]] but I stopped him [[/underlined in red]] in time. I notice water here is everywhere very clear and blue, much [[underlined in red]] better than at Philadelphia or Washington.
