November 15. This morning meeting of Chemical Section [[strikethrough]] of Council [[/strikethrough]] [[underlined in red]] National Research Council. [[/underlined in red]] Chausen discussed for different subdivisions then afterwards meetg of [[underlined]] Nitrate Committee. [[/underlined]] Professor [[underlined in red]] Elihu Thompson invited me to take lunch with him at a little Italian Restaurant. [[underlined in red]] This is only the second time I have met [[underlined in red]] Professor Thompson [[/underlined in red]] and he revealed himself as a [[underlined in red]] generous cheerful soul to me. [[/underlined in red]] Spoke me of his early work, all in a modest kind cheerful way and I had an unusually pleasant experience. [[underlined in red]] compensations for our work [[underlined in red]]. Afternoon took long walk and met [[underlined in red]] Little [[/undrlined in red]] Evening went to St. Botolph Club where I had supper in very pleasant company, engineers, military men, writers, etc.
November 16. [[underlined in red]] Fulton Blake [[/underlined in red]] who is Prof. [[underlined in red]] Fessenden's [[/underlined in red]] right hand man took me for lunch to [[underlined in red]] St. Botolph Club [[/underlined in red]] where I met [[underlined in red]] Fessenden [[/underlined in red]] and [[underlined in red]] Macey [[/underlined in red]], a writer. Spent two very pleasant and entertaining hours discussing many matters in varying lines. Then left for [[underlined in red]] Detroit. [[/underlined in red]]
Nov. 17. Today I looked thru the window of the train, landscape was all white. This reminds me that the good old summer time is well gone. [[underlined in red]] There used to be a time when I delighted to see the first snow.[[/underlined in red]] but the older I get the more I like spring and summer and not winter.
