Weather much cooler. Evening supper with Brickenstein and Goodell at Chevy Chase Golf Club.
Aug 4. Delightful cool weather this night. Bright and cool weather. Meeting of [[red underlined]] Naval Board at Carnegie Institution [[/red underlined]] Administration Building. Tame meeting.
Afternoon met [[red underlined]] Padgett, Chairman House Committee on Naval Affairs by appointment at Capitol. [[/red underlined]] We talked about [[red underlined]] nitrate situation [[/red underlined]] and Muscle Shoals in relation to [[red underlined]] that letter he wrote me. [[/red underlined]]  Wants me to [[red underlined]] write him an answer. [[/red underlined]] Told him have to refer him for the details of our report, to [[red underlined]] Secretary Baker [[/red underlined]] but will answer him a letter in which I express my opinion as to [[red underlined]] Muscle Shoals. [[/red underlined]]

(Sunday) Aug 5. Still at Washington  Weather delightfully cool Evening Brickenstein invited me for supper at Chevy Chase Club
Aug 6. This morning visited [[red underlined]] Bureau of Standards [[/red underlined]] to see new standardized motor for [[red underlined]] aeroplanes [[/red underlined]] on which aeroplane board has decided. Dr. Dickinson is in charge of chemical problems and took me to Vinton, former designer of Packard cars. Motor is rated 200 h.p. but has developed 215 h.p. I notice that it has [[red underlined]] Delco ignition [[/red underlined]] and bears two excellent [[red underlined]] pieces of bakelite insulated molding [[/red underlined]]. Had a long talk first with Dickinson, then with Hillebrandt to explain to them the  importance of [[red underlined]] motor fuel [[/red underlined]] for aeration. Told them that altho' [[red underline]] Grignard [[/red underlined]] thinks troubles at high altitude due to presence
