Hot weather - full of perspiration!
Aug 23. After long waiting got telegram from [[underlined in red]] Celine who is at Annisquam, [[/underlined in red]] Mass. that she cannot join now. Motor car repair much more serious gasket blown out - no new gasket obtainable - old one must be repaired. All days and yesterday work on the job at garage. My cash is getting short since Celine and George needed quite some of it. - with big repair bill in sight I feel like a poor rich man because [[underlined in red]] I wonder who will cash my checks here. [[/underlined in red]] Rather hot weather. - tired of loitering around here.

riving here every morning with each new boat. [[underlined in red]] Great sameness in personality. Many old spinster looking women. [[/underlined in red]] Hotel seems to be center of attraction for idling officers in uniforms.
That [[underlined in red]] scotch uniform is worn in endless variations, [[/underlined in red]] from kilts to straight trousers, and riding breeches in multicolored [[strikethrough]] tarta [[/strikethrough]] tartans, this with a Tam'o shanter - with a straight feather and a jacket and spurs looks rather odd and seems like a [[travesty?]] ball.

My car is said to be ready. Tried it.
Aug 25. left at 8:30 A.M. First miles out of city roads muddy and full of pits. Then become excellent. Nice sunshine. Delayed half an hour
