Aug 6. Another hot day. Left here early for [[red underline]] Perth Amboy [[/red underline]] with car over Dyckman street. Ferry over Hackensack and Rutherford and Newark. Left samples of [[red underline]] phenyl and cresylphosphate [[/red underline]] with Rossi and instructed him to try to use in addition [[red underline]] of our varnish and [[/red underline]] molding mixtures and also try to use it for making our novolak more fusible.  
Our [[red underline]] stock of cresol better taken care off since we have more tanks. [[/red underline]]
At lunch met [[red underline]] Ramsay and Spencer [[/red underline]] delegates of [[red underline]] Fuel Administration [[/red underline]] at East Jersey Club together with representatives of [[red underline]] Dupont [[/red underline]] Raritan Copper works and other large concerns in Perth Amboy to discuss methods for insuring economy in

fuel consumption in view of shortage of fuel.  Was back home about 7 P.M. A very hot day but one does not feel it so much while driving.
Aug 7. Several letters of [[red underline]] George. [[/red underline]] He is driving a [[red underline]] Caproni [[/red underline]] and says he is now an [[red underline]] officer of the staff there, [[/red underline]] and has been offered to [[red underline]] become an instructor [[/red underline]] but has declined. [[red underline]] Cornelia Middlebrook here [[/red underline]] this evening.  She has been taking a [[red underline]] business course ^[[course]] [[/red underline]] at Iowa University and has obtained a position [[red underline]] as office assistant [[/red underline]] of Adjudant General McCain in Washington. This is the very hottest day of all. Home all day. Evening somewhat cooler.
Then in the middle of the night violent storm and cooling off.
