By and by it became very hot. At about 4 P.M. arrived at [[red underline]] Keene Valley Inn [[/red underline]], a large barnlike hotel, very simple but clean. Found there a [[red underline]] N.Y. Herald of today's date indicting further progress on the Western Front. [[/red underline]]
Aug. 23. [[strikethrough]] A del [[/strikethrough]] I felt very tired yesterday last night went to bed early. Refreshing sleep. [[red underline]] This hotel is quiet and unostentatious but clean [[/red underline]] Meals are simple but appetizing. Ascended road behind hotel followed trail in the woods to the left which brought me to a "lean-to" near a little brook Afternoon went with the car up the steep ascent wagon road on the right to [[red underline]] Luck's Cottage.[[/red underline]] Beautifully situated with mountains in front and surrounded everywhere with woods.
