[[underline]] 1918 [[/underline]]
[[underline]] Dec. 17 [[/underline]]
Awakened in [[red underline]] Washington [[/red underline]]
Early breakfast at Cosmos Club. Later on went to [[red underline]] Nina's [[/red underline]] office. her commanding officer [[red underline]] Rear Admiral W.S. Smith [[/red underline]] was away. Invited her and the three [[red underline]] other girls [[/red underline]]. yeoman for lunch at Samparelli or some such name. The newest and most fashionable restaurant in Washington. [[red underline]] All the girls seemed [[/red underline]] to enjoy it. My train for Miami left at 2:30P.M. Weather mild [[strikethrough]] Dec. 18 [[/strikethrough]] but while I was in bed saw some snow in North Carolina.
[[underline]] Dec. 18. [[/underline]] Bright [[strikethrough]] cold [[/strikethrough]] ^[[cool]] day and crisp. [[red underline]] Charleston [[/red underline]] looks just as careless as ever. Made acquaintance of [[red underline]] Glenn Curtis [[/red underline]] on train. Seems a [[red underline]] rather nervous man [[/red underline]] his profile reminds of that of [[red underline]] an eagle or some other bird [[/red underline]]
Dec 19. Arrived in [[red underline]] Miami [[red underline]] about 8 A.M. [[red underline]] several hours late. [[/red underline]]
