Weather pleasant, not too warm and drove to [[red underline]] Cygnet. [[/red underline]] [[red underline]] Albert [[/red underline]] tells me a few small things have been stolen, my barometer, some calipers etc. [[red underline]] Cygnet [[/red underline]] is freshly painted and varnished looks spick and span but engine is still balky. [[strikethrough]] Went ashore. [[/strikethrough]] Got in gasoline and water and anchored near first bridge on Miami River. Went ashore for a few minutes to mail letters. Stormy night Eastern gale blowing.
Dec 20. Up early at sunrise. [[red underline]] Albert [[/red underline]] starts firing up engine and dynamo while I go shopping. Met Lieutenant [[red underline]] Gardner [[/red underline]] [[superscript]] x [[/superscript]] (Navy aviation) [[left margin]] x Paint & Varnishes [[/left margin]] who came aboard. Bought assortment of diverse fishing tackle for everything from mullets to sharks. Hooks ranging in price from 5 cents a dozen to $3.50 [[red underline]] for shark hook [[/red underline]].

Dec 21. Less stormy. Up at 5 A.M.  Some sunshine after clouds and rain. Went shopping and to pay bills. Good photos of [[red underline]] George [[/red underline]] [[strikethrough]] on return [[/strikethrough]] [[red underline]] made at Snug [[/red underline]] Rock after his return [[red underline]] from the war. [[/red underline]] Tried [[strikethrough]] motor [[/strikethrough]] ^[[engine in Miami River]] Paid to Phillips Brothers check [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]]
$26.21/100 for fishing tackle and rope. Went to bed at 6 P.M.
[[strikethrough]] Dec 22. [[/strikethrough]] Dec. 22 1918 (Sunday) Bright sunny weather, went past Yacht Club then North in the Bay. Thru cut, thru into channel, into [[red underline]] Indian Creek. Wild place mangroves [[/red underline]] everywhere. Plenty of mullets and other fish jumping around but none bite. Anchored about mile south of house of Refuge I went out rowing found a side channel in wild underbrush of mangroves which led me to the [[Gensen?]] beach only a few hundred feet away. Took bath in the surf then went

Gensen beach possibly Jensen Beach? **Not possible - he is describing area of Indian Creek in Dade County - Jensen Beach is more than 100 miles away. He is describing the Biscayne House of Refuge which would have been at what is now the northern part of present day Miami Beach.
