Dec 28 (Sunday) Started early systematic work on engine. Spark seems short circuited and jumps erratically. While studying this Lewis by mistake had closed outlet of [[strikethrough]] pump [[/strikethrough]] cooling pipe. Result: [[red underline]] a busted cylinder. Am rather disgusted spent [[/red underline]] remainder of day cleaning up things and getting things in shape. Lewis went to Miami in evening.  I

remained aboard.  To bed at 7 P.M.
Dec. 29.  After nights rest feel somewhat more cheerful. Cylinder will be mended here by putting copper slip over vent. While this was going on went to Miami for groceries and other supplies and to have magneto examined. Report: magneto short circuited [[strikethrough]] mus [[/strikethrough]] must be rewound. will be ready tomorrow.

Back aboard towards 4 P.M with abundance of supplies. Cylinder is mended and on again. to bed at 8 P.M somewhat more cheerful than yesterday.
Dec.30. Up early at work. It was quite cold last night [[red underline]] 55˚F in [[/red underline]] my cabin but bright and calm. To day it is quite sunny and warm. Spent morning cleaning and putting things in shape while
