has been very careless and water is running in Lewis succeeded in caulking it more or less and by working bilge pump got the bilge almost dry. Went to gasoline dock for gasoline and oil and water and about 4 P.M. anchored before Yacht Club. Calm sunny weather. Lewis went to town I went to bed at 7 P.M. Awakened at midnight by general noise of [[red underline]] whistles [[/red underline]] , bells etc. [[red underline]] announcing  new year [[/red underline]]

Jan 2. Up early [[strikethrough]] took [[/strikethrough]] Examined and cleaned dynamo. Found insulation of one of the fields rotted away, also bad contact of wire of third brush. Put in new armature as I suspect old one to be water-soaked. While Lewis went to village and to Miami I cleaned up Evinrude motor. Late afternoon succeeded in making Evinrude go. Went to bed at about 7 P.M.
