Jan 3. Bright cool morning then warmer. Early at work on dynamo. All taken apart, almost a full days work. I cleaned and adjusted parts while Lewis went to [[red underline]] Coconut Grove [[/red underline]] machine shop to have parts adjusted. Finally got ready but unable to make the engine go. tried and tried until both were disgusted. At 2:30P.M. a stop of a few minutes to swallow some bread and a lump of cheese Then again at it. No success then after adjusting throttle which was caught the engine [[red underline]] went off well. [[/red underline]] And we were able to sail back to [[red underline]] Miami. The last week has been a real purgatory Not a moments rest, one [[/red underline]]

[[red underline]] trouble after another. [[/red underline]]
Dropped anchor before dark near Biscayne Yacht Club. Lewis went to town to make purchases. I stayed aboard cleaning [[strikethrough]] up the [[/strikethrough]] and straightening up things and cooking a hurried supper. [[red underline]] It looks now as if I were going to have some easier time and be able to use the boat! [[/red underline]] An unusually large number of Yachts anchored here.

Jan 4. 1920 (Sunday) Sunny weather everything ready to go but engine balks again. After much trying and disgust we find that throttle levers are all upset. Then engine went fine. Went for 5 gallons of lubricating oil and 5 gallons of gasoline and water and with full tanks [[red underline]] left mouth of Miami River at [[/red underline]] 1:10 Wind light N.W.
