No trouble in finding the channel which is about just in the middle perpendicular to R.R. viaduct Ample room for turning Then went for [[red underline]] Little Pine key [[/red underline]] for nights anchorage Anchored near foot in a bight. First encountered rocky bottom but a little further north there is [[strikethrough]] goo [[/strikethrough]] relatively good anchorage bottom. I notice [[red underline]] spongers [[/red underline]] anchored still more north. [[red underline]] Lewis [[/red underline]] went out with his gun in dinghy, bare legged he came back in a hurry after [[red underline]] mosquitoes [[/red underline]] had [[?]] him. Jan 11. (Sunday) Bright & calm and after breakfast concluded to go to [[red underline]] key West by Spanish [[/red underline]] Channel. But the wind shifted northerly and we were suddenly enveloped by a dense and wet [[red underline] fog [[/red underline]] which shut off sight of every key. so we had to go back. Lost our way a couple of times till we finally in the [[red underline]] fog [[/red underline]] found our course and anchored again near [[red underline]] Little Pine key. [[/red underline]]
I arranged my sponges after lunch. Then with dinghy went out to [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] the [[strikethrough]] ke [[/strikethrough]] [[red underline]] Little Pine Key where [[/red underline]] there are some abandoned huts. Found a first class open air bake oven, a cast iron old stove range and [[red underline]] a well of fresh water in a [[/red underline]] pit in the rock behind one of the houses.
