Eastern wind is increasing and we are dangerously near yawl  "White-Wings" of Kansas City of which the bow is dangerously near our stern so before going to sleep had to kedge an anchor on our port-side so as to avoid bumping into our neighbor.

Jan 21. Bright and sunny We adjusted the timing and engine started at once. Went to Alton Beach and anchored it in the water there for lunch. [[strikethrough]] Goulash [[/strikethrough]] Canned goulash and potatoes and asparagus a real meal. Afternoon came back to anchor before [[red underline]] Club House [[/red underline]] I went ashore for a few hours. One of the fishing

boats and came back from Everglades with a [[underlined in red]] nine foot Alligator [[/underlined in red]] shot in the head. [[underlined in red]] My sport is still killing cockroaches aboard the Cygnet. [[/underlined in red]] This evening I killed five good sized ones.
Jan 22. Left anchor and made a trip up the Miami River as far as the dam. Beautiful weather. Much dredging above since last year. About noon anchored near Alligator Joe's farm. An [[underlined in red]] indian his wife [[/underlined in red]] and [[underlined in red]] his child [[/underlined in red]] sitting there near their dugout with which they had come from the Everglades. After lunch started cleaning and packing. A hot hard labor. [[underlined in red]] Lewis again back to his old tricks of not obeying orders or carrying [[/underlined in red]]
