Feb. 27  Met Mr. Belisario Diaz [[underline]] Ossa [[/underline]] Professor of Chemistry at the Engineering school which is part of the University. Mr. Diaz speaks French and was at Congress of chemistry in New York 1912 and says he met me and Mrs. B. seems to have resented much the lack of tact of Dr. Hesse [[underline]] Diaz [[/underline]] is also the Editor of a new periodical published since 1919 called Caliche and which occupies itself exclusively with [[underline]] saltpeter mining [[/underline]] and [[?purification?]]. He gives [[superscript]] a [[/superscript]] special course on this subject. Has also published a small book on this subject. All of which he gave me a copy of.
Went with him to the [[underline]] University [[/underline]] bldg and his laboratory. He has about 10 students. Rooms seem sufficient for the purpose, altho they are modest. Says new
