the whole with the steep green hills in the back ground and mountains in the distance [[red underline]] making an unusual effect enhanced by ever changing [[strikethrough]] ha [[/strikethrough]] color effects [[/red underline]], due to shifting clouds, modifying the sunlight. [[red underline]] I do not know of any beach more picturesque and more attractive.[[/red underline]]
[[underline]] April 17. [[/underline]] It has been raining all night and begins to clear up this morning.  Later on perfectly clear.  Went to see again the [[red underline]] top [[/red underline]] of Corcovado. [[/red underline]] Evening came [[red underline]] Dr. Lee [[/red underline]] the Government chemist.  Is an Englishman by birth.  Knew me and my work.
April 18 (Sunday) Beautiful clear morning and again very pleasant temperature, neither cold not warm. Afternoon went

for tea to cottage of [[red underline]] Dr. Lee [[/red underline]] which is situated just above hotel perched on the rocks. surrounded with palms and other tropical vegetation.  A large blue & red parrot, also smaller green ones.
April 19.  Left hotel at 7 [[black underline]] ^[[30]] [[/black underline]]. took taxicab [[strikethrough]] art [[/strikethrough]] in town drove to Leopoldium station plenty in time to take 8[[black underline]] ^[[30]] [[/black underline]] AM.  train for [[red underline]] Petropolis. [[/red underline]] delightful weather train first goes thru flat country and jungle. abundant vegetation then cog-wheel RR. up the mountain.  Luxuriant vegetation purple flowers, orchids, palms etc etc.  Way below is the sea.  Temperature gets much cooler. [[red underline]] Petropolis [[/red underline]] about 10[[black underline]] ^[[30]] [[/black underline]] [[red underline]] clean well kept place. [[/red underline]] [[strikethrough]] So [[/strikethrough]] Pretty cottages - some of them called "palacio" well kept streets & gardens. Pleasant bracing air.  A man in some kind
